Job Description

We are on the lookout for an Unreal Engine Technical Artist who can bridge the gap between our programming and art teams. This role requires industry experience and artistic versatility to handle a variety of technical art tasks. As an Unreal Engine Technical Artist, you will collaborate with the art team to enhance the look and feel of our projects using state-of-the-art technology. You will assist with creating textures, materials, and shader code, managing performance issues, ensuring quality control, and suggesting pipeline improvements. This role provides a great opportunity for a talented individual to bring their skills to our dynamic team and help create stunning visual experiences.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Pioneer new asset creation techniques for environment assets.
  2. Create technical prototypes and mock-ups for the Art Team to use as a reference.
  3. Propose pipeline and technology improvements to Art and Core Pipeline Teams.
  4. Support the Environment Team with requests for shader changes.
  5. Collaborate with the Environment Team to create and apply PBR materials and texture maps on assets, ensuring they align with the project's art direction.
  6. Demonstrate flexibility by working on both stylized and realistic projects.
  7. Maintain consistency and quality across all textures and shaders created for characters and/or environments.
  8. Understand memory and frame-rate budgets for platforms like XboxOne, PS4, or comparable platforms.
  9. Stay up-to-date with current technologies used in and by various game engines.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or five to seven years related experience and/or training in AAA console games, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Advanced knowledge of cutting-edge content creation pipelines.
  3. Advanced knowledge of game engines like Unreal Engine or equivalent.
  4. In-depth understanding of Physically Based Shading and Lighting.
  5. Experience using node-based shader networks such as those found in Unreal Editor.
  6. Proficiency in Substance Designer/Painter, Houdini, and Maya.
  7. Basic understanding of CgFX, HLSL, or Cg from a technical artist’s perspective.
  8. Basic understanding of Python and photography is a plus.
